Hey, I’m Susie

Translator, copy editor, chocoholic, crochet addict, animal lover, and budding gardener (get it?).

I mentor freelancers on pricing their services and managing their business finances so that they can earn a decent living doing what they love.

Why I do what I do

I want to see a future where every freelancer feels connected, supported, and empowered, and I think connection and kindness will get us closer to that reality. That’s why I use my knowledge and skills to support freelancers to achieve their goals and create businesses that align with their own values while supporting them financially.

All my offerings share one common feature: human connection. However you choose to work with me, we’ll get to know each other. As a freelancer who spends most of my time working alone, that’s something I really value.

My Story

I started working as a freelance copy editor and Spanish-to-English translator in 2015. I had a full-time position as a university administrator in the UK, but my partner (pictured here) was working in the US and I needed some extra income to be able to fly across the pond at every opportunity.

After 18 months of being in a long-distance relationship, we decided enough was enough. I quit my job and decided to take my freelance translation and editing business full time to give me more flexibility.

In 2019, I started mentoring a fellow translator on a voluntary basis and found I really loved using the knowledge I’ve built up over the years to help her become more organised in the way she ran her business. I realised that I had a head-start on how to set things up from my days as an administrator, and I decided I had to use that advantage to help others.

I took on more mentees, and the experience I gained from that led to my signature mentoring programme, Charge with Confidence. I’ve added more offerings over time to provide support in the areas I’ve found freelancers struggle with most, and it gives me so much pleasure to be able to empower others to achieve their goals.
